As of January 31st, 2024, NCD dental plans underwritten by Nationwide are no longer accepting new enrollments.
Starting on July 1st, 2024, NCD dental plans underwritten by Nationwide will begin transitioning to NCD by MetLife dental plans.
To learn more about this change, and what effects it might have on you, your team, and your members, we've compiled this list of questions to help provide clarity.

Key Information
Starting on July 1st, 2024, all NCD dental plans underwritten by Nationwide will transition over to new NCD by MetLife dental plans.
The benefits and monthly cost of these new NCD by MetLife plans will be identical to members' prior NCD underwritten by Nationwide plans.
Additionally, members will receive full credit for any time accumulated toward major services. The benefit accumulation period they’ve already built up with their Nationwide plan will continue seamlessly, and there will be no reset.
This transition is occurring as Nationwide has decided to no longer underwrite the dental coverage available as a benefit of membership in the NSBA. We have worked very hard to ensure a near seamless transition for our members to ensure their continuity of care.
Caring for our members is our top priority, and this transition allows us to continue to provide the excellent coverage and experience our members expect and deserve.
Members will begin to receive information about this transition and their new plan starting in early April. The notification will be in a staged rollout.
We ask that you allow members to receive their notification before contacting them about this so that they get the most accurate information.
Members should continue to use their existing NCD underwritten by Nationwide ID card for all services up to June 30th, 2024.
Then, starting on July 1st, 2024, they can present their new NCD by MetLife ID card to their dentist. This is all they will need to do to begin using their new plan.
Member Experience
Starting in early April, Members who are currently enrolled in an NCD underwritten by Nationwide plan will receive a packet of information containing the following information:
- A welcome letter that details why this transition is happening, how it affects them, and when to use their new ID card. (Click here to view a sample welcome letter.)
- An FAQ that clarifies some specific information about this transition. They will also be able to access a FAQ on Dental.NCD.com, which we have created specifically to help our members understand this transition.
- Their new NCD by MetLife ID card.
- A letter detailing the benefits and discounts available to them as members of the NWFA.
If your members have questions about this, you can encourage them to contact Member Care for assistance.
With this new NCD by MetLife plan, members will:
- Continue to pay the same monthly cost as their NCD Nationwide plan;
- Continue to receive the same dental benefits as their NCD Nationwide plan;
- Not have to opt-in or register to be rolled over to their new NCD by MetLife plan;
- Keep their existing time spent on their waiting period they’ve already accrued on their NCD Nationwide plan; that time will carry forward to the new NCD by MetLife plan and will not reset.
- Keep their vision coverage, if they had it already; nothing will be changing with their bundled vision plan.
As members gain access to their new NCD by MetLife plans, they will likely have an enhanced experience for the following reasons:
- Access to MetLife’s larger provider network (MetLife PDP Plus), making it easier for them to find an in-network provider.
- Higher in-network discounts with the MetLife network, so they should save more money on the care they need.
- Faster, more efficient, and more pleasant claims process, as MetLife is the largest claims payor in the country and processes most claims in a shorter time.
- More recognizable name brand at point of service, so that their providers will be familiar with the MetLife name when the client presents their ID card.

Commissions and Incentives
Yes, you will continue to receive commission on all previously sold NCD Underwritten by Nationwide plans so long as they are paid and active. Your commission rate on previously sold NCD Underwritten by Nationwide policies will not change.

NCD by MetLife Plan Information
Here are the current availability maps for our NCD by MetLife products.
There are a handful of states where NCD by MetLife and NCD Elite by MetLife plans are not available – see state availability maps here:
Unfortunately, we currently have no other dental insurance options in those states. We continually try to seek approval in states where NCD by MetLife is not currently available and will communicate to our agent channel any time a new state is approved.

NCD by MetLife plans use MetLife’s large nationwide PDP Plus provider network, which has more than 250,000 providers, and over 600,000 access points.
Members receive significant savings with in-network discounts of 35% - 50% off street prices.

There are no waiting periods for preventive or basic services on any of our NCD by MetLife plans. Many of our plans have no waiting period for major services as well! Please consult individual product brochures on our Agent Launchpad for more product details.

Customer Management and Retention
Yes, any members who have already enrolled in a NCD Underwritten by Nationwide plan will continue to keep their coverage.
Yes, existing NCD Underwritten by Nationwide customers will still be able to make plan changes after January 31st, 2024, including coverage level changes and benefit tier changes - including adding or removing a spouse and/or dependents.

Contractual and Legal Concerns:
No. If you're already contracted with us, you are good to go! You will not need to re-contract to sell our NCD by MetLife plans.
